Abstract

We have developed an energy efficient one-pot three-component reaction for a competent synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones using SiO2-I as a reliable and reusable heterogeneous catalyst. The reaction proceeds via condensation of aromatic aldehydes, urea and ethyl acetoacetate in an ethanolic medium under ultrasonication to afford the target molecules in excellent yields with shorter reaction duration. The heterogeneous catalyst, SiO2-I has showed high proficiency in performing this one-pot multicomponent Biginelli condensation reaction through recoverability, recyclability and minimization of the waste.
